What is PayNow and how does it work for businesses?
PayNow is Singapore’s real-time interbank payment network. Businesses accept PayNow using their UEN, which is linked to a corporate bank account. Customers pay by scanning a QR code or transferring to the UEN through their banking app, and the payment is processed instantly without a card.
What’s the difference between PayLah! and PayNow?
PayLah! is DBS’s digital wallet app, while PayNow is Singapore’s interbank payment network. PayLah! supports PayNow, so DBS customers can use PayLah! to scan a PayNow QR and pay. Merchants accepting PayNow through HitPay automatically accept payments from PayLah! and other PayNow-enabled banking apps.
How do I receive funds collected via PayNow?
PayNow payments are processed in real time through FAST. Funds appear in your HitPay account immediately and are transferred to your linked Singapore business bank account according to HitPay’s standard settlement schedule.
What is the difference between PayNow, PayNow QR, and SGQR?
PayNow is the payment network. A PayNow QR is a QR code that initiates a PayNow transfer. SGQR is Singapore’s national QR standard that combines multiple payment schemes, including PayNow, into one QR code. HitPay generates SGQR-compliant QR codes automatically.
What is the PayNow transaction limit?
PayNow sending limits are set by the customer’s bank, not by the merchant or HitPay. Individual users are commonly limited to around S$1,000 per day, although limits vary by bank and account settings. Corporate accounts may have significantly higher limits. Merchants do not have a HitPay receiving cap.
How do I register my business for PayNow?
Register your UEN for PayNow through your corporate bank’s online banking portal and link it to your business bank account. When you sign up for HitPay, provide your UEN during verification and connect the Singapore bank account where settlements should arrive.
Does my customer need to download anything to pay via PayNow?
No. Customers can pay using an existing PayNow-enabled Singapore banking app, including DBS, OCBC, UOB, Maybank, Standard Chartered, and others. They do not need to create a new account or download another app.
Can I accept PayNow without a website?
Yes. Create a HitPay payment link or invoice with PayNow enabled and share it through WhatsApp, email, SMS, or social media. Customers open the link and complete payment in their banking app, so no website is required.
Can I accept PayNow on Shopify?
Yes. Install the HitPay payment app in your Shopify store. PayNow will appear as a checkout option, allowing customers to select it, scan the QR code in their banking app, and return to your confirmation page.
Is PayNow safe for businesses? Can customers do chargebacks?
PayNow is push-based, meaning the customer initiates and authorises the transfer. There is no card-network chargeback mechanism. Once a PayNow payment is completed, the customer cannot reverse it through a card dispute process.
